The Political Journey of Senator Mike Crapo

The year 1951 was the year of birth of Senator Mike Crapo. He graduated with a B.A in political science in 1969 and a J.D from the Harvard Law School in 1977. At the appeals court in the Ninth Circuit where he served as a clerk to Judge James Carter is the place where his political career started. He later went back to Idaho in his brother's law firm to practice law.

His active political life saw him run for seats in the state legislature. After the death of his brother Terry Crapo he, ran for the open Senate seat. he served until 1992 to the state Senate from the year 1984. When the Senate president Jim Risch lost his seat to the Idaho Senate; Crapo serves as the acting senate president. There was a day in which he served for 12 hours as the acting governor in January 1989. After winning the elections in1992, he served in the Congress for three terms. Senator Crapo became a member of the U.S Senate in the year 1988.

He ran for the seat unopposed in 22004 where he garnered 99%. With 70 % of the votes, he as well defeated the Democrat candidate in 2010. While in the Senate, has been on many committees. One of the committees is the backing and housing, transportation and community development. In this committee, he was a member of the flowing subcommittees; subcommittee on housing, transportation and community development, subcommittee on financial institutions, and the subcommittee on securities, insurance, and investment which he was the chair. He has also served on the committee of Indian Affairs and Committee on the budget. He still served on the committee of environmental and public works under different subcommittees. In the committees of finance, he was a member of different subcommittees.

The international conservation caucus is one of the many caucus group which he is a member. He is a member to the zero capital gains, Senate renewable and energies, sportsmen, western water, Senate nuclear cleanup and the Senate diabetes caucuses groups.

Senator Crapo has received credits for introducing the S.700 law dealing with Conservancy. The legislation intended to bring on board landlords to conserve the endangered species through the provision of tax benefits. It was supported be many environmentalists and outdoor recreation groups. Crapo's efforts are very clear in supporting and initiating many environment conservation programs.
